Regular season woes, and Québec acquires Kolzig

After a strong pre-season the Québec Nordiques seem to be suffering from the highly feared pre-season curse. At first their top line (Frolov – Boyes – Cheechoo) was not producing but after the first couple games things have started to click for this young super line. Now with secondary scoring support from the other lines it seems like the only problem Québec seems to be suffering from is keeping the puck out of their own net. Ryan Miller has done an admirable job so far and seems to be picking up steam as the season moves forward.

Michael Garnett has done well for his age and skill level but the GM felt in order for this team to be competitive they needed a better backup. The GM was quoted in saying “We just didn’t feel like we were competitive with Garnett in net”. Once Olaf Kolzig was placed on waivers by the Edmonton Oilers it was a no-brainer. With ample cap space Quebec can easily fit his large salary in our payroll. Kolzig becomes the new backup and Garnett will be sent down to their AHL affiliate to gain experience and be called up when he matures a little more.

Hopefully the worst is behind Québec as they look forward into the season.

Culver City Wings GM labeled as whore due to rash of sell offs

Its one thing to to be accused of , how can i put it nicely, "deflowering" a gm, but its another to be labeled as a gm who trades and treats his players as if they were being pimped out for quick cash.

The City Wings' owner, seen here(aka Shitty Wings for those South Park fans), screemed at his GM to make 3 deals in less than an hour involving 3 players and 4 draft picks. This was due to the Commissioner's flip flopping of his stance on the salary cap total. At one point it had been raised to 55 million, so the City GM had bid accordingly on FA players to fill out some depth on their roster. Little did they know he would change it back to 50 million and as you can see, was forced into shedding salary fast.

To be fair, the players involved had less use than a 70 year old hooker standing on a corner. So the City GM, Pimp daddy Stevie V, shuffled his feet a few times, moved 1 RW and 2 Dmen, and voila, cap issued solved, and no one hurt, except perhaps the KC gm left crying after he had finished his first deal in the league.

From what we know, Jason must have expected something more "special" and "meaningful" for his first time. Stevie V did reassure him though that he "will have much BIGGER deals for him later on, so he had better get used to this", whatever that means.

When all the dust had settled, the City Wings had signed 2 vetran FA players in Recchi and Bondra, who for now will see 3rd and 4th line duties only. They didnt seem to pleased with that, but all I can tell them is , get used to it, its the City Wings, boys.
