After a strong pre-season the Québec Nordiques seem to be suffering from the highly feared pre-season curse. At first their top line (Frolov – Boyes – Cheechoo) was not producing but after the first couple games things have started to click for this young super line. Now with secondary scoring support from the other lines it seems like the only problem Québec seems to be suffering from is keeping the puck out of their own net. Ryan Miller has done an admirable job so far and seems to be picking up steam as the season moves forward.
Michael Garnett has done well for his age and skill level but the GM felt in order for this team to be competitive they needed a better backup. The GM was quoted in saying “We just didn’t feel like we were competitive with Garnett in net”. Once Olaf Kolzig was placed on waivers by the Edmonton Oilers it was a no-brainer. With ample cap space
Hopefully the worst is behind Québec as they look forward into the season.
